How do you get to that place in your life where you feel successful? Where you are doing what you believe in, your head and heart are working as partners? If you are there, congratulations! If not, and you feel you need help to start your new year with good footing, you might consider the work of Terri Bianco – she firmly believes that what you think is how your world is created. She is a life coach and an expert in leadership – from the quantum level. If you need a boast of energy, she is ready to help you!
What was the impetus for you to start using the principles of quantum coaching in your work?
It turns out I was using principles of quantum physics in my coaching before I knew what quantum physics was!! For 25 years, I have been training groups of working adults in the areas of communication, leadership, teambuilding, and morale. I apply techniques research shows rely on how the brain works best. Inevitably, someone would contact me after a session. I would talk with him or her and apply these brain-based techniques directly. Guiding someone into realizations that really worked was so powerful, it led me into expand my business to include coaching.
What are some of the principles of quantum leadership?
Leadership is a much bandied about term. Quantum leadership combines the metaphysical with the practical. Imagine an organization—a world—where we do not separate our hierarchical selves from our spiritual selves; where we openly acknowledge that people’s thoughts and feelings are at play here. That our “spirituality” doesn’t stay in the cloakroom and doesn’t have to be acknowledged only in church. An environment that allows people to excel not only makes for a better organization, it makes for a better world!
We are what we think about. Quantum physics shows we are participants in our own circumstances much more than originally believed. All matter is energy, and that includes the vibration of thoughts. Quantum leadership is about how you lead – within and without. You “lead” yourself by what you tell yourself, what you choose as an emotion, what you believe is true, and how you behave. You are, in fact your own leader and can “re-think” your beliefs. And you can lead others by making them aware, through guidance or modeling that their language and thoughts direct their behaviors.
This is not denial or “brainwashing,” though all of our brains could use a good scrubbing! This is deliberately choosing a perspective, an emotion, and a belief that serves us better than the one causing us to think, talk, and behave in ways that do contribute to our wellbeing or success or failure... “It’s going to be a tough year.” Yep – it will be. “I never lose weight in winter.” Yep – you will not.
How do our beliefs change the way we live our lives?
Thoughts and ideas come out of the ethers—or, I prefer, a Creative Source. They can come to you in that original way, or more often, they are passed down to you, picked up by you, applied to you in your upbringing and culture. Beliefs are nonjudgmental. They are energy. We have a thought and it is accompanied by emotion. So it is a formula: thought + emotion. Research in psychology, education, biology, and physics reveals how powerful emotions are in our makeup; how they are not only clues to both our mental and physical health, they can alter them. Thought + emotion repeated frequently form a belief. From our beliefs, we act. Knowing you are the source of your belief or that someone started it for you may give you pause to wonder if it really does serve you to continue to believe it. If it is not something that propels you into producing, achieving, succeeding, giving, or generally being a creative force in your universe, what causes you to continue to hold on to that belief? That is what we look at in quantum coaching.
This is not to say we question every belief—that would be foolhardy (“gee, I wonder if my belief in gravity is true?”). Rather we look at beliefs that hold you back from achieving what you want. These are the obstacles to getting you from Point A to Point B successfully. Who do you have to be to achieve the success you want in life? To do that, we uncover the beliefs you hold that empower you as well as the ones that hold you down. We work on strengthening the former and atrophying the latter.
What do you get out of the work you do?
Oh, God. Everything! I love what I do. I live for “aha’s,” both in coaching and in training. I love to write. I am a Boomer and want to leave a mark. I love that with quantum coaching, my intuition is at its highest; I peak. Sometimes in coaching I say things and have no idea where they came from. Or, I apply a technique that I think might work and it does and I have no idea how I knew that. When a client becomes still, smiles, releases and relaxes, and then “gets it,” I experience their success, I see the growth, I feel their happiness, and I just glow. I love what I do.
