Healing Journeys with Suzie Daggett
Suzie interviews local Jin Shin Jyustsu practitioners on the healing effects of the modality on chronic back pain. Jin Shin Jyustsu is considered a “physio-philosophy”, both a healing art and a healing philosophy. Translated as the “Art of the Creator through compassionate and knowing man”, it is simple yet powerful work that facilitates the restoration of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance. Jin Shin Jyustsu, an ancient healing art, was rediscovered in Japan in the early part of the 20th Century and brought to the west by Mary Burmeister in the 50’s. In this simple and effective therapy, the practitioner follows the natural flow of the body to find areas of stagnant or stuck energy and with slight pressure, release occurs and balance is restored. Many clients report deep relaxation, stress reduction and better health after a session.
The question the practitioners answered is “How does Jin Shin Jyustu assist the body in healing chronic back pain?”

In my experience as a Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner for the past 12 years, (and as a sufferer of back pain for the previous 17 years) most back pain is not caused by structural damage, but by stagnant or blocked energy in the body. There is a natural pattern of energy flow in each body that promotes health and healing. When that flow is impeded by stress, lifestyle patterns, weakness, or illness, it can jam up or block the energy, which restricts the body’s normal functioning and ability to heal itself. Blocked energy can result in pain and dysfunction of all kinds, including mild to severe back pain. Many of the cases of back pain I’ve worked with (including herniated discs, misaligned vertebrae, and pinched nerves) were the result of tight muscles caused by stagnant or blocked energy! Tight muscles can constrict circulation, preventing oxygen and nutrients from reaching critical areas. By listening to your pulses and placing hands on specific areas of your body in a specific order, blocked energy can start flowing again, bringing relief, well-being, and healing. 530-292-1600.

Who has not made the connection between mental and emotional stress and an aching back? Often physical pains are the result of a busy lifestyle. Daily worries, fears, anger, sadness and pretense manifest in the body as various tensions, e.g. back pain. The body acts like a mirror of our thinking. Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient healing art similar to acupuncture and acupressure. Gentle pressure of the hands stimulate the circulation of the life force along energy pathways/meridians thus restoring balance and harmony. Not only physical tension in the back gets released but awareness about its underlying cause awakens. A session lasts 1 hour with the client fully clothed lying on a treatment table. Clients typically report feeling profoundly relaxed yet energized after a treatment. The effect is accumulative and usually 3 treatments will bring a noticeable relief of the back pain. Through Jin Shin Jyutsu we become aware of how it feels to be centered within ourselves even when our external life is chaotic. There are also simple yet very effective self-help techniques that can be taught to reduce daily stress and intensify healing. I am a student of Mary Burmeister, and have studied this work in depth. 530-477-9414 www.JinShinJyutsu.com

In my practice, I have found Jin Shin Jyutsu to be amazingly effective for relieving chronic back pain and making long-term improvement. To understand why is to understand how Jin Shin works with the life force energy of the body—for any condition. Jin Shin views the body as a self-regulating, self-integrating, and self-healing entity that is alive, conscious, and self-aware. When energy flows freely, the body has all of the resources it needs to heal itself. When energy is blocked, for whatever reason, muscles tighten, the spine is pulled out of alignment, and pain sets in as a symptom of imbalance. Jin Shin releases energy blockages by gently touching points on the body in specific combinations (called flows). I use special Jin Shin flows in a process of unwinding the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and sacrum. I may also use CranioSacral to release holdings in the head. By stimulating and directing the flow of energy, the blockages dissolve and the back comes naturally and gently back into alignment. 530-913-1309

Back pain? Jin Shin Jyutsu offers so much help for that! Since back pain arises for many reasons, the key to relief is understanding the unique source of the pain for each person. For some, relief may come by unlocking blocked points at the feet and toes. For another, the source may be found at neck or shoulder points. Still others may find that points along the spine want attention. We simply trust that each body will reveal what it needs. An experienced Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner can help the client discover how to release his/her particular pain. By listening to the person’s description of the pain, by observing the body and by listening to energy pulses at the wrists, an individualized treatment is developed. A simple self-help plan can be shown for use at home. If you, or someone you know, experience back pain, you might explore for areas of tightness or tenderness at the arch of the foot, the inner groin at side of pubic bone, and the area where neck and shoulders meet. By simply holding these points, the body can be helped to relax and pain can melt away. 530-265-6634
