Alternative Healing for
Kids
by Reonne Haslett and Lloyd Cargo
Nine year old John had migraines,
making it difficult for him to function in school. Repeated visits
to the doctor and diagnostic tests revealed no underlying cause.
He was prescribed Ibuprofen and a can of coca-cola when a migraine
came on.
Four year old Alyssa couldn’t
sleep. She would toss and turn, grind her teeth, and sometimes
cry out, keeping her parents awake most of the night. Her doctor
could find nothing to diagnose, but suggested warm milk and playing
soft music at bedtime. She also suggested perhaps the parents
could add in a little Tylenol, which might help.
Six year old Max was getting
in trouble at school. According to his teacher, he couldn’t
sit still and was being aggressive with his classmates. A meeting
was arranged with the parents wherein it was discussed that Max
might have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Max
saw a psychiatrist and was put on the drug Ritalin. This calmed
Max down significantly. In fact, his parents barely recognized
him. He went through his days peaceably, but his parents missed
his old spark and enthusiasm.
Since infant Clara was born,
her mom hadn’t gotten more than two hours sleep at a night.
The pediatrician diagnosed colic, a condition of the digestive
system, which causes gas pains. Clara’s mom tried soothing
her, rocking her, burping her, but nothing seemed to work. The
best she could hope for was her sister’s advice that “this
too shall pass”. She was exhausted and exasperated.
Unfortunately, many parents
must reach states of utter frustration with conventional medicine
before seeking alternative health answers for their suffering
children. It need not be so.
Fortunately, there was light
at the end of the tunnel for all of the above mentioned children
and their parents. They researched and discovered CranioSacral
Therapy, a highly effective, therapeutic form of hands-on healing
which uses the rhythm and flow of the cerebrospinal fluid as
a monitor for assessing and treating the “root cause” of
illness.
Migraines, headaches, colic, ADHD, sleeplessness and unexplained
aches and pains are just some of the conditions that heal favorably
with CranioSacral Therapy.
CranioSacral touch is very
gentle and many times children fall asleep during a session.
Unlike traditional massage, the clothing is left on. A session
can last from fifteen minutes to one hour, depending upon the
age and the child‘s needs. Each treatment is extremely
individualized, performed by loving practitioners who have been
trained in pediatric CranioSacral Therapy. A one-hour session
can cost from $65 to $85, depending upon geographical area and
level of experience. There are many highly qualified CranioSacral
Therapists in the foothills and Sacramento area. You can find
a complete listing and more information about CranioSacral Therapy
on The Upledger Institute’s website at www.upledger.com.
CranioSacral Therapy is usually
not covered by traditional insurance, however, most babies
and children heal quickly and parents are overwhelmingly happy
with the resulting good health of their child and the harmony
restored to their lives.
