Nothing “Happens”
... when you live in the “cause”
by Kia Kalil-Gibran, D.Sc
If I’ve head it once, I’ve heard it a million times: “You know what happened to me today?” To which my response is, “Nothing ‘Happens’ in life.”
“Nothing Happens” - a bold statement indeed.
Most people (and it could be someone you know very intimately!) live life in the “effect” - believing that life happens. If you’re in the “effect” you’re living in the outcome without taking responsibility of getting there. By living in the effect your possibilities of getting to where you want to be, or doing what you want to do, are pretty slim because you’re not taking responsibility of your life and being, nor are you living in the “cause.”
To live life in the “cause” means you are willing and able to take 100% responsibility of your life; who you are, what you do, and where you are in relation to the “whole.”
One way to live in the “cause” is to begin eliminating the possibility for “accidents,” or “things happening” by practicing being “focused” and “aware” of what you are doing each moment. Being totally aware minimizes the possibility for “accidents/things happening” to manifest. To be focused and aware implies one must be in total agreement with what one is doing. The opposite for being focused is to be “unaware” and “scattered” - divided in parts and pieces - which attracts chaos and puts one at the effect - the “victim.”
To be a “victim” implies you are living in accordance with someone else’s model of the world, constantly Re-acting to life (living in the “effect”) instead of taking action. To take action is to learn to deal effectively with each situation life presents instead of making it a big deal (Re-action). Begin to accept that everything is malleable - in constant motion. We, as humans, often believe the world is solid and fixed; that life can be perfect, when in fact nothing is perfect. So when there is a movement - an action - that we are not expecting or not comfortable dealing with, we may conclude that something has happened. Instead, by understanding and accepting that everything is malleable, we can chose to simply “deal” with the situation and take action.
Your “Life” - and your experiences throughout life - are determined by how you perceive events and how you communicate those events to yourself so much so that it is not the events that matter most to us, rather it is how we interpret those events that determine how we think about ourselves and how we will respond. Nothing is inherently good or bad, rather it is how you value things that determine the effect any situation has upon you. People who succeed in life are those who have learned how to take any challenge that life presents and communicate that experience to themselves in a way that allows them to successfully change things; they are living in the cause.
It’s up to YOU to STOP being a “victim” and begin taking management of your life. Decide to move with the malleability of life and deal with any and all situations with flexibility.
It is not what happens,
It's what you do that makes the difference.
You make the difference.
