Fire in the Belly of Mother Earth
May begins with May Day, rooted in an ancient earth-based fire holiday known as Beltaine. We dance around and decorate the May Pole. This holiday represents the coming together of male & female for the purpose of fertility. Planting begins, seeds lovingly placed in the right soil mixture & given the nutrients & water necessary start to sprout. The Taurus new moon happens on the 3rd at 2:51 a.m. Taurus is a Fixed Earth sign. Concerned with consolidating what has been initiated in Aries. We become focused on our homes, gardens, pleasure, peace, yummy food, good friends and ease. Venus, the planetary ruler of Taurus is in Aries, along with Uranus, Mercury, Jupiter and Mars. So we may feel more stable now but we are all still quite sparky!! Taurus tends to be a slow moving sign but the Aries energy keeps us in action. We have no choice but to let go of what no longer serves us in order to create more beauty. We just cannot sit still at this time!! Saturn in Libra is in a challenging quincunx to this new moon. Be aware of staunch rigid, un-accepting tendencies in your relationships & partnerships. Saturn also opposes (polarizes) across from Venus and Mercury. We may need to be more truthful and direct in our communication with one another.
Mother's Day on the 8th could be a bit challenging. The moon will be in Cancer, making a few tense squares. Cancer is the sign of the nurturing parent which is usually but not always the Mother. It seems fitting as Mothers are people with their own challenges & problems. Deep love has a special kind of perfection, not so much in the right or wrong sense but more like a soft, protective center. This love feels more like being in an egg embryo. Cancer is ruled by the moon so it can be a bit looney, moody, and emotional. Love is rarely like we expect & yet it is there always, we only have to notice it. So on this day, we honor our Mother's and ourselves as Mothers, the Mother instinct, Mother earth and all of the amazing creation which nourishes and holds new life, protecting it to the best of their abilities. We have all been loved in some way and encouraged to fly when our precious life is strong enough to be on its own. We honor Motherhood, the deep love, the unforgivable mistakes, and the precious moments which come and go so quickly. In many ways the greatest and most important love there is.
Shortly after Mother's Day there is a transition that will likely feel good. 3 planets move from Aries into Taurus, first Mars then 4 days later Mercury and Venus. When they were in Aries life may have felt like being in a fire which just kept getting hotter. It has been exceedingly intense. We were asked to go way beyond what we normally do or endure. The edges of our individuality have been expanded, exposed, and inflamed. We have been challenged by facing failure, breakdowns, mis-communications. All of this asking us to get clearer about our own needs and discover what is truthful. What is most necessary in our live? What is most important to consider? We were asked to act quickly & learn to make priority calls without a lot of time for consideration. Take a big sigh of relief at this time, you deserve it, you made it and you learned a lot, didn't you. Now we can relax for a bit. Like the description of Sun in Taurus above pleasure, how to get it, how to bask in it and receive the bounty of our work will be the call of the day. Yippee, get out the hammock and enjoy your gardens!!
The Scorpio full moon is on May 17th at 4:10 a.m., PDT. The same 3 planets which have now moved into Taurus form a trine to Pluto. This is good mojo, the seeds which have been planted this month will likely produce rich, luscious fruit. Wherever you put your attention now will have the added benefit of a deep wealth of juicy life energy at its beck & call. This should happen easily especially for people with strong planetary influence in the earth signs; Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The combination of Scorpio & Pluto take us to depths we had no idea possible. But this time the new awareness comes gracefully, without effort. A few days later the Sun squares Neptune asking us to surrender, trust and have faith in ourselves and a world which may seem to be coming apart in frightening ways. There is always a bigger picture, more than we can know or comprehend which holds us. Everything is going as it is supposed to, all we can do is show up and do what we feel is right. That is more than enough!
On the 21st the sun moves into Gemini, the view broadens. We see many perspectives, and enjoy learning new ways of understanding. Communication becomes more important. Gemini is an air sign which readily adapts to new ideas and information. The twins which are the Gemini Glyph express this signs nature. Often referred to as Trickster, some may call it a bit sneaky but in either case Gemini shows an aspect of reality which tells us that we may need to be tricked up to see things in different ways. What you see is not always what you get, life is filled with the unknown and in Gemini we adapt to change more readily. Lighten up, explore, allow yourself to be unattached & float on the winds of change!
