Healing Destinations By Suzie Daggett With Dr. Jennifer Nelson It is so reassuring to be with a Chiropractor who also is a Light Assisted Deep Tissue Body Worker, Ayurvedic practitioner, Nutritionist and more! Dr. Jennifer Nelson is that person – she is able to assist her patients in a variety of methods so they feel very supported and experience relief leaving her table. Speaking of her table – it is very unique as it has piped in music so you can feel the vibration of the music during your session. Really quite fabulous! How did you get to the point of offering so many different modalities in your practice? I followed my continual interests in the art and science of healing. I've always wanted to get a clearer picture of what influences affect our health and our recovery. As practitioners, we can only see things from where we stand - and that is dependent on what tools and techniques we have been exposed to personally and professionally. We are subjected to many forces throughout our lives; physical, psycho-emotional, and environmental, which cause our bodies to become symptomatic. We are complex creatures and sometimes deep healing requires seeing things from a few different vantage points - to create a hologram of our total health picture. I don't think we can ever see the whole picture - but each piece we discover brings us more into balance. The chiropractic subluxation is an important part, but it may be just the tip of the iceberg. Offering different modalities gives me and my patients different perspectives to see how they got to where they are now and how to move into to a state more conducive to healing. And really, that is essentially what chiropractic and ayurveda are about: removing obstruction and bringing the body back into balance to improve function and wellness. It seems like you are addressing physical and emotional core issues as you manipulate the body. How does that happen? We store life's impressions in our bodies. Some say these are stored in our musculo-fascial system, some believe they are in the brain and nervous system. Others believe that this "storage system" is more subtle or energetic. It is often hard to separate physical events from emotional issues in the body. If something happens to us physically, we have an emotional reaction to it and visa versa. We hold on to issues - emotionally and physically - until some force or understanding helps us to unravel and release them. It is my experience that our bodies are "conscious organisms" aside from what we think of as our brains and "minds." These bodies' have their own intelligence and it seems to be connected to an intelligence greater than any one of us. It gets exciting when we can listen and speak to that intelligence. This can happen with deep tissue bodywork, chiropractic adjustments, herbs, supplements, light and so on. What benefits do you and the patient receive from your work? It feels good for me to assist someone in getting relief from pain or some other chronic condition. We all get to do our part. Hopefully, we take an exploratory journey together to learn more about what throws us out of balance and how to become more holistically aware of our bodies. Healing seems to be an evolutionary collaboration and we both change as a result. Dr. Nelson can be reached at 530-478-9592 |
